Does drinking chlorinated water cause cancer?
According to the U.S. Council of Environmental Quality, cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water did not contain chloride. When chlorine is added to our water, it combines with other natural compounds to form Trihalomethanes (chlorination byproducts), or THM's. These chlorine byproducts trigger the production of free radicals in the body, causing cell damage, and are highly carcinogenic. Although concentrations of these carcinogens (THM's) are low, it is precisely these low levels that cancer scientists beliee are responsible for the majority of human cancers in the United States.
What about fluoride and aluminum in the water?
Recent studies have shown certain levels of fluoride are possibly linked to brain cancer, behaviorial problems, thryroid suppression, male infertility and impotence. They also show that we are all exposed to numerous sources of aluminum, in foods, canned drinks, cookware, deodorants, medications and pesitcides. Further studies show that aluminum may play a major role in Alzheimer's, Parkinsons, and Lou Gehrig's disease.

Twenty years ago, a prominent Nephrologist (kidney doctor) advised me that there were three elements in the water that would promote sickness or death in a dialysis patient; they were fluoride, aluminum and chloramine. Fluoride is present in all water on the planet including sea water and well water.
Are there pesticides and herbicides in my drinking water?
A recent study of 20 major cities in the United States showed 8-12 different pesticides and herbicides present in tap water.
What about bathing in chlorinated water?
Studies have shown a rapid absorption rate of chlorine through the skin in a warm to hot shower or bath. A dosage of eight glasses of chlorinated water can be absorbed through the skin in one single shower or bath.
What cancers have been linked to chlorination practices in tap water?
Pancreatic, kidney, rectal, bladder, and now the chlorine compound has been found in breast cancers cells. These are the ones that have been documented, there may be others.
Why is chlorine used in my tap water?
Chlorine and ammonia are used as disinfectants to kill bacteria. They are used because they are the cheapest, not the best. European countries have had ozone injection with glass lined plumbing for over 20 years. Ozone generators use large amounts of energy and are not cost efficient. It is doubtful that we will ever see, in our lifetime, such a state of the art treatment system and distribution system in the United States.
